GAY MONTREAL: SEPTEMBER

  • GAY MONTREAL: SEPTEMBER

    Posted by

With the last rose of summer wilting away, the flowery gays and lesbians of Montreal are still blooming brightly! With the changing leaves and the change of winds, September is a month of change and trying new things. See how the Montreal gays do September…

The summer months may have been for partying and drinking Jager off strangers, but September is the month to get serious and fall (pun SO intended) in love. September is the month where the year takes a turn, and people start scrambling to find that warm body to cuddle up next to during the cold winter months. Luckily for all of you, Dunphy is here to provide you with information of where to go today to find that lucky someone of tomorrow. I’ve discovered in my many years (count em: four) of boy hunting in Montreal, that those nights grinding on club dance floors are futile. So there must be other ways to meet that special someone…

Meow Mix: Queer Slow Dance (Saturday September 10th, 10 PM @ Sala Rosa)

Now this is how to meet a cute, available guy: a slow dance! Why must I suffer at those big gay dance clubs with thumpy music surrounded by meat heads with their shirts off fornicating on the dance floor with each other when all I really want is a cute boy to politely ask me to dance, and then hold my hand and maybe let me put my head on their shoulder while S-Club 7’s “Never Had a Dream Come True” serenades us? I used to think it was too much to ask, but now I have a Queer Slow Dance to attend! There will be designated dancers for the wallflowers, and a dance card-booklet for those who have a people lining up for a dance. I’m taking names, so please inquire within.

Cruising at Cafe Ceramic: In the past I have said that the hottest gay boys in Montreal are found at the likes of Unity, Parking, and Mec Plus Ultra. While that statement still holds true, I am adding another place to the cruising list: Cafe Ceramic. While Unity and Parking have the eye candy, give me a boy that appreciates a good smoothie and pottery painting and I’m all his forever. Peering through the window, I spot at least half a dozen sexy gays. And it’s September, so painting pottery is just painfully adorable. You need to start making those christmas gift you’ll give to everyone! I have a feeling pottery is under going a revival this September. But don’t forget, you heard it here first.

    Montreal Fashion Week

Gays love style, fashion and being current. So being at Montreal’s Fashion Week is of the utmost importance. Hopefully the collections this year still include scarfs, leather booths, frumpy sweaters and pea coats because those are the only things I own. In sticking with the theme of September Love, this place will obviously be crawling with hot gay men. Most of, if not all, will also have edgy glasses. It’s very fashion. Designers this year include Travis Taddeo, Dimitri Chris, Dennis Gagnon, Dinh Ba, Barila and more!

Spend Nights at the Royal Phoenix Bar (5788 St-Laurent Bvd. (corner of Bernard))

New bar on the queer block is Royal Phoenix. What’s nice about this: the food is good and the drinks are cheap, and there are plenty of social mixing events! Find your one true love at their super chill 5 a 7’s, or their nightly events. For example on Mondays you can get a Po’Boy Sandwich and a pint of beer for only $10. Which means you can get two Po’Boy Sandwiches, two pints of beer for only $20. Holy math! I think meeting a boy over Po’Boy and Beer is the start of a really romantic relationship. If you think I’m making a joke here, you obviously don’t know me very well.

    Farha Foundation AIDS Walk

Obviously this is not the time or place to meet someone, but it’s an important event that takes place in September. On September 18 at 9AM, there will be the annual AIDS walk starting at Parc Emilie-Gamelin. Everyone should show up and support the community to help eradicate this terrible disease. Register here to help raise money for your walk.

PitBull: Montreal Edition (Saturday, September 17th @ Bain Mathieu – 2915, rue Ontario est): Toronto’s famed Pitbull parties are coming to Montreal! Pitbull is going down at Bain Mathieu, tickets are $10 and are available at Fetish Armada, or for $15 at the door. DJ Shane Percy will be providing the soundtrack to this tub (literally) of hot furry men dancing. The event page on facebook says “no dress code”, and I think what they mean by that is… no clothes.

Black Blue (Sunday, October 9th @ Olympic Stadium)

Black Blue returns for its 21st instalment, and it’s headed back to the Olympic Stadium. This is one of the world’s largest raves, and is not to be missed. Check back on the Montreal Buzz for full coverage leading up to the big event! The theme this year is BlackJack21, obviously I’m going to have fun with that in puns.
