Vancouver Convention Centre Opens Its Doors on Canada’s 150th Birthday!

You are invited! The Vancouver Convention Centre is hosting an Open House in its West building on July 1, Canada’s 150th Birthday.

Explore the world’s first LEED® Platinum-certified convention centre, home to the renowned TED Conference and other exciting events from around the globe. Learn about the facility’s many “unconventional” features including its marine habitat and six-acre living roof; visit the new exciting Event Expo; learn about the convention and meetings business; and participate in fun family-friendly activities.

All indoor Open House activities will run from 11 am to 6 pm in the West building (1055 Canada Pl.) on July 1.

Event Highlights

Canada’s Celebration Corner: Take advantage of a special photo opportunity with the Maple Leaf Donut Wall – with donuts baked fresh from our scratch pastry kitchen. Donuts are available for purchase with a minimum donation of $5. All proceeds will be donated to charity.

Event Expo: New to our Open House is a showcase of some of the exciting consumer shows and events* we host at the Convention Centre. Be sure to stop by to learn about their events, enjoy special activities, games and giveaways.

Hold the World in Your Hands: Take your photo with one of the most popular features in the facility – the one-of-a-kind suspended globe.

Sustainability Avenue: Learn about the Convention Centre’s comprehensive sustainability program while enjoying activities like our recycling game and busy bee corner. As well, learn about Canada’s largest living roof and the more than 400,000 indigenous plants and grasses from the Pacific Northwest Coastal region.

Marine Connection: Enjoy unique activities in unison with the Convention Centre’s thriving marine habitat and Ocean Wise program.

Remembering the Games: Take a journey back through the magical moments during the 2010 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. See the medals and torches up close and see what it feels like to reach the top of the podium.

Cauldron Lighting: This majestic 2010 legacy will be re-lit at 12 pm to celebrate Canada’s birthday.

Brew with a View: Enjoy delicious, family-friendly fare and beautiful mountain and harbour views on the facility’s licensed Pacific Terrace, home to Douglas Coupland’s Digital Orca. Food and beverage, including ice-cold beer and cider, will be available for purchase starting at 12 pm.

Instagram Photo Contest: Share a photo of your visit to the Open House on Instagram and use #VanConventions to be entered into a draw to win great prizes.

In addition to the Open House, the Vancouver Convention Centre is a Community Partner of Canada Day at Canada Place, where an exciting line-up of events is scheduled in the Convention Centre’s East building and the Jack Poole Plaza.
