Canada Day long weekend is fast approaching and as we get ready to celebrate our country’s 151th birthday, you may be looking for a few ideas on how to celebrate – the Canadian way.

The celebrations in the city offer something for everyone, with live musical performances, firework displays, salmon feasts, and more. Check out a few of the things you can do this Canada Day in Vancouver:

1. Canada Day at Canada Place

Vancouver’s biggest celebration of Canada Day takes place on the waterfront by Canada Place. The award-winning event, presented by the Port of Vancouver, is the largest Canada Day celebration outside our nation’s capital.

For 2018, Canada Day at Canada Place will feature musical performances, a picnic plaza, food trucks, a Citizenship Ceremony welcoming 60 new Canadians, an innovation zone, and a fireworks show to cap it all off.

3. Take in a baseball game with the Vancouver Canadians

What could be more Canadian than watching a team bearing the namesake of the country!? The Vancouver Canadians, Vancouver’s most-popular minor league baseball team will be playing at Nat Bailey Stadium for Canada Day.

The game will take place from 1:00pm to 4:00pm and will feature the added bonus of free AW root beer floats (!) and all kids under 12 years old will get to run the bases post game.

4. Celebrate with a Salmon Feast in Steveston

It’s “Canada’s biggest little birthday party”! One of the best times to visit historic Steveston Village in Richmond is on Canada Day when the community attracts up to 70,000 people for its Salmon Festival. The popular event features a pancake breakfast, parade, Japanese cultural fair, craft fair, music concerts and a world famous salmon BBQ.

The festival has been running since 1945 and takes place on July 1 from 6:30am until 8:00pm. A plate of delicious barbecue salmon will cost you just $16!

5. Go ahead, eat some poutine!

If you didn’t know, Canadians love their poutine (french fries soaked in gravy with cheese curds). If you haven’t yet tried a piping hot bowl of deliciously gravy-soaked fries with slowly melting cheese curds, have you even lived?!?!?!?

It’s time to take the leap and try yourself a big plate of poutine, it’s Canada Day – do as the Canadians do! Not sure where to take the first bite? Check out this list of where to try Poutine for the First time in Vancouver. Purists will tell you that the best poutine can only be found in Eastern Canada, but you’ll find some pretty darn good poutine right here in Vancouver.
