Saturday nights on Vancouver’s False Creek waterfront just got a little more exciting.

A brand-new (and completely free) concert series kicks off at the Plaza of Nations in downtown Vancouver on Saturday, June 20, continuing through Sept. 12. For Vancouver music fans, it’s a chance to enjoy waterfront shows from some of the city’s hottest bands, while also enjoying an incredible lineup of food trucks and even craft beer.

The venue for all this excitement is the picture-perfect (but rarely used) Plaza of Nations outdoor stage, located just next to the Edgewater Casino and not far from B.C. Place and Rogers Arena. Organizers have lined up a who’s who of local food trucks for the event, including Vij’s Railway Express (award-winning Indian cuisine from Vikram Vij), Roaming Dragon (Asian fusion), The Reef Runner (Caribbean), Guanaco (Salvadoran), Super Thai, Rocky Point Ice Cream and more than a dozen others.

Wash down all those street eats with locally brewed craft beer. Much-loved Parallel 49 will be serving its Craft Lager, Gypsy Tears and Tricycle Radler. Bridge Brewery is offering a pale ale, while Lonetree and Hopping Mad serve up artisanal ciders and Bettys tempts with vodka iced tea.

But enough about the food and beverage – let’s get to the music. Each Saturday, a band will perform from 7 p.m.-10 p.m., with opening acts sometimes kicking off the party from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. The lineup this summer is heavy on local talent – both established and up-and-coming. The party starts this Saturday, June 20, with opening act Love Coast (reggae-infused indie rock), followed by beach-folk rockers Adam Woodall Band.

Other musical highlights from throughout the summer include Most Marley (one of Vancouver’s best reggae and RB groups) on June 27, energetic guitar virtuoso Jay Juatco (funk and covers) on July 4 and Sept. 5, Grateful Dead tribute band JGBC on Aug. 1 and the Big Easy Funk Ensemble on Sept. 12.  The full lineup can be seen on the North Shore Green Markets website.

The Plaza of Nations Saturday concert series is free and – considering the prime location, great tunes and craft beer garden – is sure to fill up fast with thousands of people. Be sure to get there early for the best views of the stage.
