The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) is hosting two exciting events this summer as part of their free outdoor concert series.

On Sunday, July 8, the VSO will host their incredibly popular ‘Symphony in the Park’ outdoor concert at Deer Lake Park. Then the VSO will host their first ever ‘Symphony @ Sunset’ on Saturday, July 14 at Sunset Beach in English Bay!

The VSO free outdoor concerts are a popular summer tradition that attracts major crowds who flock to see the symphony in the great outdoors. It’s a good idea to come early, because space fills up fast. But, the beauty of the event is that you can really watch it from anywhere nearby and still enjoy the beautiful sounds of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

There are two free outdoor concerts in Vancouver this year:

Symphony in the Park at Deer Lake Park

Date: Sunday, July 8, 2018

Time: Starts at 7:00pm

Location: The concert takes place on the grass behind the Shadbolt Centre.

The annual Symphony in the Park is a FREE concert at Burnaby’s beautiful Deer Lake Park, featuring Classical favourites and two of the most famous and beloved John Williams movie themes. Come early, bring your blankets and picnics for a beautiful night with the VSO at Deer Lake Park with your Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. (More details)

Symphony @ Sunset at Sunset Beach

Date: Saturday, July 14, 2018

Time: Prelude concert at 7:15pm, Main concert starts at 8:30pm

Location: Sunset Beach in English Bay

Join the VSO at Sunset Beach, on the beautiful English Bay, for the first-ever Symphony At Sunset, a free open-air public concert for all of Vancouver, presented in collaboration with the Vancouver Park Board. Expect excerpts from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, John Williams’ scores to Star Wars and much, much more. Pack a picnic or take advantage of food trucks that will be on site. (More details)

If you’d rather enjoy the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra indoors, they also have a host of events this summer. For something different, check out the VSO at the Movies event featuring Star Wars: A New Hope!

In 2019, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra will celebrate their 100th anniversary! Founded in 1919, the VSO is the largest performing arts organization in Canada west of Ontario and the third largest symphony orchestra in the country. Fun Fact: in 2008, the VSO won a GRAMMY award for “Best Instrumental Soloist(s) with Orchestra”.
