It’s that time of year again when you have license to gorge on turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and plenty of gravy. However, cooking the whole spread on your own can be considerable work. Or, if you’re visiting from out of town, you might not know anyone whose Thanksgiving dinner you can crash.
Fortunately, many places in town will do the slaving in the kitchen for you. Here are five that promise to be delicious:
Mosaic Grille Bar (Hyatt Regency Vancouver, 655 Burrard Street)
Chef Marc-André Poirier has prepared a special and affordable three course Thanksgiving dinner ($38) for October 9, 2017. You’ll begin with a choice between roasted parsnip velouté with chestnut toast, cremini mushroom pâté, and crispy sage; or delicata squash salad with goat cheese, pomegranate, baby kale, puffed buckwheat, pumpkin seeds, and honey vinaigrette dressing. Mains are either butter roasted turkey (white and dark meat), bread dumpling, apple braised cabbage, Brussels sprouts, giblet gravy, and cranberry relish; or BC salmon with confit potatoes, braised leeks, carrots, and tarama lemon vinaigrette. Finish by making room for cardamom poached pear crumble with bourbon gelato, fennel pollen anglaise, and cinnamon tuile; or Mosaic’s signature and decadent triple layer chocolate cake. Cibo Trattoria (Moda Hotel, 900 Seymour Street)
Another reasonably priced three-course option ($38) can be found at Cibo Trattoria from October 6-9, 2017. Chef Josh Gonneau’s menu begins with creamy sunchoke purée with crispy pancetta and chive oil; or farro salad with local organic greens, dried cranberries, and white fig vinaigrette. Local free range turkey is next with apple sausage stuffing, sweet potato, and natural jus. Vegetarians can opt instead for butternut squash tortelloni with brown butter, crispy sage, pecorino, and toasted hazelnuts. The last course is pumpkin cheesecake with mascarpone-goat cheese and pumpkin seed brittle. Call 604-602-9570 to reserve.
Railtown Café (397 Railway Street)
While the café will be serving seasonal goodies, such as pumpkin spiced lattes and pumpkin scones, you can also get a Thanksgiving To-Go feast from their catering dvision. The package ($299 plus tax) feeds a hungry 8 to 10 people and can be ready either cold for later baking, or hot for immediate supping. The sumptuous menu comes with a 16-lb sage-roasted organic turkey; maple-glazed sweet potatoes; mashed Yukon gold potatoes with chives; buttered baby carrots; Brussels sprouts with toasted almonds; organic mesclun greens with candied walnuts, citrus segments, and aged sherry vinaigrette; dried apricot, chestnut, and brioche stuffing; house-made dinner rolls and focaccia with sweet butter; wild flower honey and ginger infused cranberry sauce; and, finally, classic pumpkin pie with Chantilly cream. Your order (on-line, or by calling 604-568-8811) must be placed before October 4, 2017 at noon. Pick-up happens 10am-5pm for cold orders and 3pm-5pm for ready-to-eat orders October 8-9, 2017. Delivery is available at an additional cost. Partial proceeds go to Mission Possible, a charity that aids those in the Downtown Eastside.
H2 Rotisserie Bar (The Westin Bayshore, 1601 Bayshore Drive)
If you’re wanting to feast on turkey while also gaining cooking tips for next year, H2 Rotisserie has the perfect Thanksgiving option for you! On October 9, 2017, Executive Chef Kamal Silva, Executive Sous Chef Mike Reid, and H2 Restaurant Chef Caitlin Mark will be leading a cooking class ($85 per person, additional wine pairings are $18 by the class or $56 for a bottle) that will teach you how to prep a turkey, as well as whip up all the fixings. The instruction, which begins at 5pm, will segue to a 7pm dinner of spinach salad with toasted almonds, orange segments, dried cranberries, and classic Dijon balsamic vinaigrette; roasted turkey with classic apple cranberry stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, maple yams, roasted Brussels sprouts with bacon and parmesan; and pumpkin chiffon pie. Boulevard Kitchen and Oyster Bar (The Sutton Place Hotel, 845 Burrard Street)
On October 8 and October 9, 2017, you’ll be able to enjoy Chef Alex Chen’s prix-fixe ($68 plus tax and gratuity) Thanksgiving menu, which opens with sweet pumpkin bisque with sage, cinnamon, roasted apples, and brown butter drizzle, before the main course of slow roasted turkey with hazelnut brioche and chestnut stuffing, whipped potatoes, caramelized root veg, bacon Brussels sprouts, cranberry sauce, and giblet madeira gravy.
