4 Fancy New Year’s Eve Parties to Celebrate in Style in Vancouver

Looking to paint the town red on New Year’s Eve? Vancouver offers plenty of options for New Year’s Eve revellers who like to party in style. While some events are sold-out by now, a search of Craigslist or popular resale websites may just turn up a few last-minute tickets.

Quite possibly the swankiest affair in the city, the Shangri-La Gala is held inside the 5-star, 62-storey Shangri-La Hotel in the heart of downtown.  The lightly Asian-themed party features canapes from the kitchen of Michelin-starred chef Jean-Georges, as well as a midnight champagne toast.  The party spreads over four rooms and a grand ballroom and features two of Vancouver’s top DJs. All of this high-class fun will set you back $120 (guys 25 or older; ladies 21 or older).

Fairmont Waterfront Ball

An always fashionable option is the Waterfront Gala Ball at the Fairmont Waterfront hotel.  Considered the biggest hotel party in the city, this black-tie affair features international DJs, special VIP sections and a big balloon drop at midnight.  Tickets for the event start at $65 and – in keeping with the classy theme – guests are required to be 25 or older. The price includes canapes and food stations, plus a glass of champagne at midnight.

For a different perspective on the evening, head 555 feet above the streets of Vancouver to the Vancouver Lookout in the Harbour Centre.  Each year this unique space, which features floor-to-ceiling windows and 360-degree views of the city, hosts the aptly named Elevation bash.  This two-room affair offers up a pair of DJs, canapes and champagne at midnight. Tickets are $85 and guests are required to be 21 or older.

Want to try something a bit different? Take to the high seas aboard the Prince of Vancouver for a New Year’s Eve dinner cruise.  Departing from Coal Harbour, the boat tours the waters around the city while guests count down to the New Year inside.  Feast on a gourmet buffet and enjoy live entertainment and dancing as the city skyline floats by.  Tickets are $148 and guests must be 19 or older.
