5 must-try burgers in Montréal
Montréal usually celebrates the humble burger during Le Burger Week in September, when over 40 restaurants offer specialty burgers at awesome prices. Unfortunately for burger lovers, a lot of these creations are retired after the event, never seeing the light of day again. But fear not! Here is a list of some must-try burgers that are available in the city all year long.
Uniburger – Multiple locations
Uniburger is Montréal’s answer to the popular American fast food chain, In-N-Out Burger. We suggest getting the “Uniburger,” which is topped with lettuce, tomatoes and signature Uniburger sauce. Pick from a variety of free toppings to your liking. The AAA grade Canadian beef is never frozen, and the fries are cut fresh daily. Don’t forget to order a classic chocolate shake with your meal—they use local Glacier Bilboquet ice cream!
Notre-Boeuf-de-Grâce – 5732 Sherbrooke Street West
A play on the name of the borough where it’s located (Notre-Dame-de-Grâce), Notre-Boeuf-de-Grâce (or NBG as it’s referred to by locals) is a popular neighbourhood burger joint that grinds its own meat, offering deliciously pink burgers. Start by choosing a 3 or 6 oz. patty and then pick from a list of 19 “free will toppings” or 12 “creation toppings” like pickled eggplant, grilled pineapple or a fried egg (all at an extra cost). Signature burgers are also available.
Maison Boulud – 1228 Sherbrooke Street West
Have you ever wondered what a burger would taste like if it were made by a world-renowned Michelin-star chef? Wonder no more and check out Chef Daniel Boulud’s Maison Boulud at the Ritz-Carlton Montréal hotel downtown. The “DBGB Burger” is served with tomato compote, caramelized onions and Morbier cheese.
Queue de Cheval Burger – 1181 De La Montagne Street
Located in the alley behind the swanky steakhouse Queue de Cheval, QDC Burger is actually a counter resto that serves up some of the city’s most extravagant and over-the-top burgers. Pick toppings like lobster, foie gras and spring truffles to add to your half- or one-third-pound burger base. Try the “Kong,” an ahi tuna burger garnished with cucumber, marinated wakame (seaweed), tomato chutney, mushrooms, and wasabi aioli.
Lavanderia – 374 Victoria Street
Lavanderia’s Kobe burger is made with certified Kobe beef from Japan and is arguably one of the city’s most decadent. Popular Montréal chef and Food Network judge on “Chopped Canada,” Chef Antonio Park made headlines earlier this year when it was announced that he would be granted the sole importation license of the coveted Japanese beef. Served with yucca fries, this burger will set you back a pretty penny, but it isn’t often that you get to eat a burger made with the world’s most expensive beef.
