Six October concerts in Vancouver

The Vancouver concert scene is hot this month, with the ladies (Dixie Chicks, P!nk and Sarah Brightman) taking over the arena and singer/songwriter Jack Johnson at a theatre. Meanwhile, Living Colour returns to take us back to the pre-grunge late-’80s and Phantogram bring the mod sounds of today’s electro-rock to the Commodore. Read on for more info…
Jack Johnson (Oct 14 at the Orpheum Theatre, 601 Smithe St.) – Laidback Hawaii-livin’ surfer dude on tour for his new album From Here to Now to You. With opener the appropriately named Bahamas. Show: 7:30. Tickets: $66.90 at ticketmaster.ca. All-ages/assigned seating.
Phantogram (Oct 15 at the Commodore Ballroom, 868 Granville St) – The Rhode Island duo of Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter toured heavily on the strength of their 2009 debut Eyelid Movies as well as three EPs. Now Phantogram is back on tour, this time on the strength of a new EP, Black Out Days (only available at tour stops). Show: 9:30 p.m. Tickets: $22.50 at ticketmaster.ca. General Admission.
Living Colour (Oct 17 at the Commodore Ballroom, 868 Granville St) – Be the first on your block to take a trip back in time – to 1988, to be precise – as Living Colour returns to the album that launched their career. The group reunites to play Vivid in its entirety, and kicks off its comeback tour in Vancouver. Show: 9 p.m. Tickets: $28.50 at ticketmaster.ca. GA.
P!nk (Oct. 21 at Rogers Arena, 800 Griffiths Way) – Once-notorious performer on tour for sixth album, 2012′s The Truth About Love. From Jody Rosen’s Rolling Stone review: “It’s supercatchy, but Pink strains to shock, peppering songs with gratuitous curse words.” Tickets still available. Show: 7:30.
