A roundup of new terrasses in Montréal

Contrary to popular belief, Montréal only has two seasons: hockey season and terrasse season. When we’re not busy counting Stanley cup rings and reminiscing about the ones that got away, our other favourite pastime is dining al fresco. We love to eat out under the sun or star-lit sky and take advantage of the warm summer months. Regardless of what you’re in the mood for, from after-work drinks to fine dining, there’s a terrasse that suits your needs. Here are some of the city’s newest terrasses not to be missed this summer.

Pizzeria_GemaPizzeria GEMA (6827 St-Dominique)

The popular Little Italy Pizzeria of chefs Michele Forgione and Stefano Faita recently added a terrasse to their restaurant. Devouring one of their incredible pizzas under the sun just adds a whole new meaning to al fresco dining. The menu at GEMA features signature pizzas, like the Vetri (homemade mortadella, pecorino, pistachio pesto, and Quebec mozzarella di bufala), as well as monthly specials that are inspired by local chefs and other culinary friends. Whether it’s with a pizza or a cup of GEMA’s frozen custard treats, take in the sights and sounds of Montréal’s Little Italy from this vantage point.

Matine Ma’tine (1310, Maisonneuve Est)

Currently one of the most popular brunch spots in Montréal, M’atine offers a market-inspired blackboard menu (that changes weekly) for weekday lunch and weekend brunches. You can also enjoy coffee or tea here, paired with one of the resto’s amazing homemade pastries or classic French confectionaries, on a picnic-tabled terrasse and herb garden.

LabarakeLabarake Caserne à Manger (3165 Rachel Est)

Located in the Hochelaga-Maisoneuve borough of Montréal, Labarake is considered a “restaurant du quartier” (neighbourhood restaurant). Its menu focuses on locally inspired cuisine using regional products. Enjoy the summer weather on the terrasse (with a view of the Olympic Stadium) for Happy Hour cocktails or weekend brunch. Also, for troublesome mornings, try the Hangover Poutine—pulled pork, fresh cheese curds, and bacon covered in hollandaise sauce over roasted potatoes.

ManitobaManitoba (271 St Zotique Ouest.)

This Mile-Ex gem takes terroir cuisine to the next level. Its ever-changing menu is completely dependent on the wild and fresh products found by the staff. Try the smoked bacon sandwich with apple ketchup and watercress for lunch, and the walleye, ratte potatoes, and Gaspesian seaweed sauce for dinner. Manitoba and its terrasse bring you one step closer to nature, literally.

HarlowRestaurant Harlow (438 Place Jacques Cartier)

Nestled right in the heart of Old Montréal’s Place Jacques-Cartier, Harlow’s terrasse gives guests a front row view of the hustle and bustle of the city’s old public square.  From street vendors to buskers, immerse yourself in the charm of Old Montréal while enjoying one of several signature cocktails and a charcuterie platter, new on the spring menu.
