Justin Bieber performs with Carly Rae Jepsen in Vancouver, October 10

Canada’s most valuable natural resource is coming to Vancouver.

Justin Bieber is swinging into town on Oct. 10 to launch the Canadian leg of his Believe world tour.  He’ll take the stage at 7 p.m. at Rogers Arena.  And his opening act is none other than Mission’s own Carly Rae Jepsen, the local pop diva behind Call Me Maybe.

Back when concert dates were announced in the spring, Beliebers were shocked to discover that Vancouver had initially been left off the tour (hard to believe, considering that Saskatoon made the cut).  After a tempest in the Twitterverse, however, Bieber’s organizers found a way to squeeze in a Vancouver concert.

The Justin who takes the stage this Wednesday will be a far cry from the Justin who thrilled tweens at Rogers Arena nearly two years ago.  Long gone is his signature mop-top, replaced by an edgier pompadour.  The 18 year old from Stratford, Ontario, even sports a few tattoos, including a bird, a crown and the Hebrew word for Jesus.   And he’s involved in a very grown-up romance with Selena Gomez, of Disney fame.

His sound has matured as well.  The teenie bopper anthems of his 2010 debut My World 2.0 have given way to collaborations with Drake, Ludacris, Nicki Minaj and Big Sean on his new album Believe, which dropped in June. The hip-hop and RB-infused singles Boyfriend and As Long as You Love Me have dominated the pop airwaves over the summer.

Bieber’s opening act is B.C’s own YouTube goddess Carly Rae Jepsen, who skyrocketed from Canadian Idol to international fame and fortune on the back of her infectious single Call Me Maybe.  The song has had more than 280 million views on YouTube and ascended to the top spot on the U.S. Billboard and Canadian Hot 100 charts.  Her latest album Kiss has wowed the critics, and she’s slated to perform a track on the 2012 season premiere of 90210.

As for tickets to the Bieber concert, they seem to have sold out weeks ago.  But there’s always Craigslist.

Anyone going to the concert?  Anybody see the Biebs last time around?  Let us know below.
