Exclusive Vancouver preview of new cabaret-style dance performance

This June, performers with one of Vancouver’s premiere music-and-dance series are going to Ottawa as part of the 2015 Magnetic North Theatre Festival. To prepare for the occasion – one of the biggest in its 10-year history – Dances for a Small Stage is presenting an exclusive preview of the show they’re taking to Ottawa for Vancouver audiences June 2 – 4 at The Emerald.

Producers and dancers with Dances for a Small Stage are planning a show that is styled after the performance style popular in 1920s Germany called Weimar cabaret (made famous in the movie Cabaret). Following decades of restrictive government in Germany, the Weimar era saw a loosening-up of theatre that invited new forms of expression. In keeping with this inspiration, producers of Dances for a Small Stage promise “a bold, no-holds-barred comment on Canada’s political climate,” according to the press release.

Performers include dancers Patrick Pennefather, Chengxin Wei, Vanessa Goodman, Burgundy Brixx, Dayna Szyndrowski, Jonathan Ryder, and Karissa Barry.
