Get tickets to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra for $15
Are you 35 or under? Kind of interested in classical music? Always wanted to go to the symphony but never got around to it?
Also, are you on a tight budget?
If so, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra has a deal for you. The VSO – one of Canada’s largest and oldest symphonies – is offering a unique “all-access” pass for people ages 35 or under or full-time students. Sign up and you can nab tickets to one of the VSO’s more than 150 yearly concerts for the bargain price of $15. (A shout-out to Vancouver is Awesome’s “Cheap Stuff” column for putting this on our radar.)
The TD All-Access Pass is meant to give young people a chance to experience live classical music at a fraction of the usual costs. Anyone who meets the criteria can sign up for a free membership. Then, you’re able to purchase up to two tickets per concert for just $15 each. Tickets can be for any section, excluding the dress circle (i.e. the front-row seats).
The All-Access Pass runs now through the end of the current season, in June 2016. During that time, the VSO will be staging more than a hundred performances at venues throughout Metro Vancouver, from the symphony’s home in downtown’s Orpheum Theatre to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre and the Chan Centre at UBC. Big concerts slated for the coming season include a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth, Fifty Years of Bond (dedicated to the music of the James Bond movies), Bollywood: The Spirit of India and a performance with master violinist Itzhak Perlman.
Pretty much all of the concerts are open to All-Access Pass members, with the exception of Kids’ Koncerts, Tiny Tots and the Chamber Players series. However, there is one significant catch. The special $15 tickets are only made available two weeks in advance of performances. That means that the most popular concerts may already be sold out by then or have just a few seats remaining.
