“Who ever talks about that epic day they had all alone?” asks Nadia Samer, a pro skier/snowmobiler and university student who has been skiing in Whistler and the surrounding backcountry since she was 2 years old. “In the mountains, I think that shared experience with good friends is key. You are all out there for the same reason and from the moment you drop everyone is on the same ride that carries on through après and dinner too.”

Nadia (who also took the photos above) points out that in the backcountry your friends can also be the difference between life and death but the mountains can weed out the false friends pretty quick.

“I always make this joke that if someone can survive a day of ski touring or sledding that is equivalent to three months of friendship or dating. Peoples’ true personalities shine through and the mountains make for a much deeper bonding, through joy and adversity.”

Today is day four of the week-long Love Whistler celebration at Whistler.com and the daily theme is ‘Love your Friends.’ (There’s even a “friendly” to help you spread the love: 25% off Superfly Zipline tours).

From the mountain tops to the valley, through storms and sunshine, “Good friends make the best days better,” Nadia says. And we couldn’t agree more, there’s a reason chairlifts have more than one seat.
