Montreal’s Best Hotel Restaurants

Kyo-3

Without a doubt, Montreal is a city for the culinary inclined, a wonderland for gluttonous gastronomes, a real foodie’s city… basically an awesome place to get your grub on. With the thousands of restaurants at our disposal, the choices are endless, from fine dining restaurants to gastro-pubs and izakayas, Montreal’s food scene satisfies all palates…

What often goes overlooked or simply not recognized enough are the restaurants located and featured in any one of the city’s dozens of luxury or boutique hotels. These restaurants highlight some of Montreal’s culinary talent and are often frequented and appreciated by visitors and locals alike.

Osco_1

Osco! Brasserie Provençale is located in Intercontinental Hotel in the financial district of the city. Chef Mathieu Saunier – at the ripe old age of 30 – is the youngest executive chef to head any of the kitchens in the entire hotel chain. His French roots are epitomized in his menu that was created to help diners discover local products while lending the flavours of his native Provence. Crispy sweetbreads, Porto sherbet and gnocchi with ricotta and chives or Lamb with rosemary, grilled asparagus with goat cheese and an incredible cipollini au jus, Chef Saunier’s dishes have the option of being served tapas style as well. Ordering many dishes to be shared is the ultimate way to experience Osco! to the fullest and a crowd favourite amongst the locals in the know.

Located right next to Osco! is Montreal’s premiere absinthe bar, Sarah B. A mysterious beverage shrouded in mystery, Sarah B invites you to sample the once outlawed spirit in the plush space that features nooks and secret alcoves to enjoy the ritual of absinthe as well as a fantastic bar menu of small bites and hors d’oeuvres.

Kyo-7

Kyo is a popular local meeting place for the post-workday crowd for enjoying happy hour bites as well as dinner eats. Boasting an extensive –and probably the city’s biggest – sake list of over 30 options, this spot also hits the spot thanks to their Izakaya themed menu. Tapas style dishes, Kyo offers a little bit of everything when it comes to their menu pulling from different style of cuisine with a deft Japanese sophistication; from sushi and nigiri to chicken yakitori and hamachi bibimbap,  Chef Ding and crew will not let you leave hungry.

701_2

A place for brunch that sees both locals and tourists is at Suite 701 located in the Hôtel Place d’Armes at the foot of the Notre Dame Basilica in Old Montreal. Suite 701’s brunch formula on the weekends are “Laid back Saturdays and Upbeat Sundays”, where their resident DJ mans the turntables for an AM meal sure to knock any cobwebs out of your head. Signature cocktails as well as both sweet and savoury brunch options like bacon wrapped scallops, seared oyster mushrooms, celery heart salad or a great vanilla parfait, elderberries and oat crumble, don’t be surprised to see guests take advantage of the Suite 701 “Thirsty Diner Option” where for $25 from 1:30pm to 3:30, the bar is OPEN!
