Tea becomes them – the return of British duo James and Jamesy
A consistent favourite with audiences at the Fringe Festival, James Jamesy are coming back to Vancouver.
James Jamesy in High Tea, which begins May 18, is the second show from the award-winning British duo. It follows their 2012 debut 2 for Tea. Between the two, the shows have been performed 175 times in 13 Canadian cities to more than 15,000 audience members, children and adults alike. The shows have been described as “Monty Python meets Dr. Seuss.”
In High Tea, James and Jamesy have to find ways to stay afloat when a disaster floods the world in tea. Expect dashes and sprinklings of such maritime fare as Noah’s Ark, Jaws, and Titanic as the comedians deliver their signature blend of theatre, physical comedy and dance, while including the audience in their antics.
“Our audiences often surprise themselves by how eager they are to jump into a costume and join in on the fun with James and I,” Jamesy is quoted as saying in the press release.
“High Tea is unlike anything you’ve ever seen, made new each evening from fresh interpretations by the eclectic audience members that become part of the show. But be advised: this is no smooth sailing voyage. I experience a momentary lapse in judgment that – quite literally – results in a dramatic breaking of the fourth wall. And don’t forget your teacup. Tea will be served!”
The duo (Aaron Malkin is James, Alastair Knowles is Jamesy) has collected accolades like Best of the Fest (Winnipeg), Most Outstanding Show (London), Best Comedy (Victoria), Patrons’ Pick (London), and Best Script (Montreal), among many more. Their humour appeals to all ages.
James Jamesy in High Tea is on at the Jericho Arts Centre (1675 Discovery Street) from May 18 – 24. Tickets are $24 for adults and $15 for the under-12 set. Visit jamesandjamesy.com or call 1-800-838-3006 for tickets.
