The biggest free music and arts fest of the year is about to descend on Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood.

The Khatsahlano Street Party is set to transform West 4th Avenue into 10 blocks of live music, beer gardens and outdoor art on Saturday, July 11. Now in its fifth year, the festival is expected to attract more than 100,000 revellers to the stretch of West 4th from Burrard to MacDonald Streets.

The street party is perhaps best-known for great live music. This year, more than 50 bands with local roots will perform on eight different stages. The lineup includes a mix of talent old and new from Vancouver and BC.  Indie rockers Yukon Blonde and dark pop favourites The Belle Game share top billing with vintage punk and underground acts the Pointed Sticks and the Enigmas. Up-and-coming bands from The Peak 102.7 Peak Performance Project will also be taking the stage. the A complete lineup is available on the festival website.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a street party without street food.  Vancouver’s top food trucks will circle up for the event, and there will also be beer gardens strategically placed along the 10-block route. These options are complemented by more than 50 restaurants, pubs and eateries that line the party zone, many of which have street-side patios or make great picnic options.

On the arts front, this year’s festival marks the premiere of the KHATSart Exhibition, a crowdsourced showcase of works from established and emerging Vancouver artists. Festival-goers can also enjoy a lineup of street buskers from Vancouver and beyond, including basketball juggler Basketball Jones, extreme unicyclist Dynamike, comic Byron Bertram and others.

For the kids, the Khatsahlano Street Party also offers a Family Zone, complete with special children’s performers including Kiki the Eco Elf, balloon artists, face painting and other kid-approved fun.
