10th Annual Garlic Festival Features Garlicky Delights from Local Chefs

There’s truly a festival for everything in Vancouver. On August 19, 2018 you can celebrate the “Stinking Rose“, everyone’s favourite aromatic plant.

The 10th Annual Garlic Festival is held each year in the award-winning Terra Nova Rural Park in Richmond. For the 10th year anniversary of the event, the celebration will be bigger and better than ever before. There is even garlic ice cream for you to try… if you dare.

This unique and popular annual event is probably not the best place for a first date. Unless you come prepared with a pocket full of breath mints!

The Richmond Garlic Festival is the Lower Mainland’s only celebration of garlic, and it attracts visitors from far and wide. For every fan of garlic, it’s a dream come true. Who even thought it was possible to put garlic into ice cream??

This family-friendly event isn’t just for people who are really, really passionate about garlic. There are plenty of events and activities that anybody can enjoy. This year, the Garlic Festival features:

Fresh local garlic for purchase
Garlicky delights from local restaurants
An expanded Farmers Market
Live Bird of Prey Flying Demos.
A “kid’s zone” with tons of farm nature-themed activities
Growing Garlic Workshops
Live Music
Farm tours

Admission to the festival is by donation. All the money raised goes to the Sharing Farm, which provides fresh produce to the Richmond Food Bank.

The Sharing Farm is a community-based farm that operates on a tiny budget and relies on 1,000+ yearly volunteers. With the help of volunteers and part-time staff, the Farm is able to provide thousands of pounds of fruits and vegetables every year to community meals throughout the city. In their 14 year history, the Farm has donated well over 260,000 pounds of fresh produce.

The annual Garlic Festival helps support the Sharing Farm’s goal to grow fresh local organic produce for low-income families.
