Now that Christmas is officially over, the question on everyone’s mind is “what are you doing for New Years Eve?” For many, a relaxing evening in with Netflix is good enough, for some – a raging party at a night club.
For those with kids, finding a family-friendly way to ring in the New Year can be a task. Spend it indoors? Celebrate early?
If you’re looking for some special ideas on how to celebrate the fast approaching 2019, check out the list below for some early celebrations (for the kids – and, let’s face it… for you too), fun ways to pass the time until midnight strikes, and lots of cool activities for kids and kids at heart…
NYE at Robson Square
If you want to avoid the large crowds at the NYE Fireworks Celebration closer to the Waterfront of Downtown Vancouver, head to the family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebrations that take place at Robson Square ice rink.
Head there at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. for free early countdowns to 2019, as well as live music and DJs, and free ice skating. Live shows start at 4 p.m. and finish around 10.30 p.m, so you can still go to later New Year’s Eve celebrations in the city afterward. Ice skating is available on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Concord’s NYE Fireworks Celebrations and Fireworks
The largest New Year’s Eve party in Vancouver now takes place in Downtown Vancouver with free live musical entertainment, food trucks, live on-site broadcasts, a family fireworks display for families with young children, and a midnight countdown with fireworks over Coal Harbour.
The family fireworks consists of a countdown at 9 pm from the stages and concludes with a short burst of fireworks from the offshore barge.
New Year’s Eve Celebration at Grouse Mountain
Kick off the New Year at the peak of Vancouver on Grouse Mountain! Starting at 5:00pm, you can pack in a whole evening of fun at the Grouse Mountain New Years Eve Celebration.

Family First Night is the North Shore’s longest running family friendly New Year’s Eve event. Have fun laser tobogganing (??), enjoy live entertainment from Vancouver’s magician Joel Eddington and an exciting fire routine. There will also be roving clowns and live music.
Cozy up to the warmth of Mt Seymour fire pits and indulge in complimentary s’mores. If you’re hungry, there will also be some of Vancouver’s finest food vendors ready to serve you. Venture into the woods with your family on an intriguing Snowquest or enjoy a self-guided snowshoe along lantern-lit trails. All of this followed by an early NYE countdown, party favors and a fireworks finale at 8:25pm.
Family-Friendly New Year’s Eve Variety Show
Ring in 2019 with local host funny-man Daniel Zindler and his cast of fools including circus acrobats, magician Paul Nathan, live music, and a few surprises. It all ends early with one of Vancouver’s largest balloon drops letting you party afterwards or put the kids to bed.
The family friendly NYE variety show is fun for kids of all ages and will keep you entertained throughout the evening!
