It’s a great time to be a shopper in Vancouver.  Retailers from around the world are scheduled to open new flagships stores in the city in the coming months and years.  New malls are under construction and old ones are under renovation.

Here’s a quick look at some of the upcoming changes in Vancouver’s retail landscape:

Park Royal Mall RedevelopmentThe venerable North Shore mall is in the midst of a $150-million improvement and expansion project that will add an additional 300,000 square feet of retail space.  New tenants like Anthropologie and Zara will soon be joined by Vancouver’s first La Maison Simons.  The Quebec-based specialty fashion retailer is slated to open a 100,000-square-foot store in 2015.

Oakridge Centre RedevelopmentThe 1959 mall on the Cambie Street corridor is readying for a massive $1.5-billion expansion, with the first phase set to be completed in 2019.  Plans call for a total of 1.4-million square feet of retail space, along with 2.7-million square feet of neighbouring residential space in multiple towers up to 44 storeys high. Existing anchor tenant Hudson’s Bay will be joined by a Target store and another unnamed anchor tenant.
