Nooners are back! For the 9-5 set, CBC Musical Nooners are an excuse to enjoy the sun, meet up with friends and discover new music. Who doesn’t love a mini, outdoor concert halfway through their day?

This year’s nooner program features refreshing blasts of music from sweet Canadian and international indie acts.

“We are really pleased with this year’s lineup, there is a lot of fantastic music to enjoy in a number of different styles, so get ready for some surprises” remarks Jon Siddall, lead producer for the series. “And, this year we’ve added more Latin music and a very entertaining Balkan big band.”

The free concert series runs Monday – Friday, from noon to 1:00 pm, at the CBC Broadcast Centre at 700 Hamilton Street (between Robson and Georgia) from July 5 – August 23.

The opening performer for this year’s CBC Musical Nooner season is London, Ontario’s own Shad. Influenced by the likes of A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots and De La Soul, Shad’s conscious hip hop guarantees that this year’s nooner premiere will be one chock full of head-bobbing beats and inventive lyrics.

The July nooner schedule includes Vancouver’s own alt-popster Jasper Sloan Yip (July 9), Latina songstress Stephanie Pedraza (July 10) and the folksy blues of duo Dave Sinclair and Keith Bennett. Nooner fans can keep up to date with performer announcements here.

“CBC Vancouver’s Musical Nooners has become one of the most highly anticipated events of the summer,” says Johnny Michel, managing director, CBC British Columbia. “The artists that our producers have lined up are diverse and showcase some great local and even international talent.”

Happy noontime grooving Vancouver.
