There are a lot of national “food days” that are celebrated in Canada and around the world (did you know that today is National Chiffon Cake Day? And tomorrow is National Hot Chicken Day??)
One of the most recognized days is fast approaching on April 7th when Canada and the United States celebrate National Beer Day! It’s the perfect excuse to grab a pint with your friends or family and cheers to the delicious golden liquid that pairs so well with the upcoming spring season.
If you’re looking to raise a glass to the amazing ale, here are five things you can do to celebrate National Beer Day this Sunday, April 7th. Don’t worry; if you miss it this time, you also have International Beer Day (August 2nd)!
Book a Vancouver Brewery Tour
There’s something special about the experience of drinking a fresh, locally made, hand-crafted beer. If you want a closer look into the beer that goes into the bottle in your hand, check out Vancouver Brewery Tours, where their mission is to encourage you to drink locally while having an informative and memorable experience!
On their fun and informative brewery tours, you’ll sample your way through Vancouver’s best craft breweries, meet fellow beer lovers, chat with the brewery staff, and maybe even learn a thing or two! If you haven’t been on a craft beer tour, Vancouver is the place to start!
Head to some of the best patios in Vancouver
We’re heading into the best patio season in Vancouver, when the sun is shining but not yet scalding hot, and a light sweater keeps out the breeze. Vancouver has some amazing patios that feature waterfront views and great people watching opportunities.
Your best bet for a beer outside with a beautiful view include:
- Mahony Sons – Stamps Landing located between Olympic Village and Granville Island, this restaurant features amazing views of the harbour and the skyline of downtown Vancouver.
- Tap Barrell at the Convention Centre located right in the heart of downtown, this restaurant features local craft beer with an absolutely stunning view of the North Shore mountains.
- Flying Beaver Bar Grill located in Richmond with a perfect view of the arriving and departing Harbour Air seaplanes.
Do a taste test at CRAFT Beer Market
With 140 taps pouring local, classic and obscure ales, CRAFT offers Canada’s largest selection of draft beer. You can check out the huge list of fresh ales on tap on their website, or just head to the location in Olympic Village to take in the amazing drink menu for yourself.
Get a beer flight and ask the waiter/waitress to surprise you with something delicious. Keep an open mind and you will not be disappointed.
Pair a pint with some fabulous food
What’s a pint without some delicious pub food to wash it down? If you’re all about pairing a brew with some delicious food, there are plenty of brew pubs in Vancouver that will satisfy all of your cravings:
In Gastown, visit Steamworks Brewing Company and sip a Jasmine IPA while enjoying the stunning view across to the North Shore Mountains. In Railtown (the area just east of Gastown), drop by The Belgard Kitchen where they offer beers from on-site Postmark Brewery, along with upwards of 30 wines on tap. Take advantage of Yaletown Brewing Company’s large urban patio while you slurp on a cold one, or head to Dockside Restaurant on Granville Island and take in the waterside happenings as you sample their Cartwright Pale Ale. If you happen to be in the Main Street area crawling the tasting rooms, pay Steel Toad Brewpub a visit for a Saison Sauvignon, or head a few blocks east to Big Rock Urban Brewery for a Rhubarb Wit or a Rauschbier.
Do a brewery crawl through the blossoms in East Vancouver
Speckled throughout the streets east of Main, independent brewmasters have opened the doors to a number of tasting rooms that provide an exclusive EastVan microbrew experience and look at what –and who- is behind your favourite local lagers, ales, and stouts. Choose a sunny day to stroll through this unique area of town and get your fill of both blossoms and brews, and don’t forget to show us how much fun you’re having on your adventure by tagging #eastvanbrewcrawl in your posts.
