Exclusive collection Marni for H&M lands at the Pacific Centre March 8

Big news, design buffs. Vancouver’s downtown Pacific Centre is the only BC retail location and one of just two west coast locations to get the exclusive Marni for HM collection, which launches in a week.

Marni is a Milan-based label known for its signature prints and eccentric statement accessories. Consuelo Castiglioni founded the cult-brand in 1994 and it’s grown to become one of the hottest global runway tickets.

The Marni for HM collection is among the most exciting gobbets of Vancouver style news this spring. The sporty yet sophisticated spring capsule includes looks for women and men that are actually affordable and wearable. It’s already created a media buzz thanks to the artsy Marni for HM commercial directed by Sofia Coppola. Then there was the mega-hyped collection launch party with Drew Barrymore, Freida Pinto, Winona Ryder and Milla Jovovich. Get a sneak peek at looks from the collection after the jump.

The Marni for HM collection was designed by Marni creative director Castiglioni precisely so that everything goes with everything. Prices range from $24.95 to $149 for leather shoes and full length dresses, with most pieces falling in the $50 to $80 range.

Fabrics are either crisp or fluid; the collection utilizes stiff cotton, taffetas, and silk, along with patent or matte leather and metallic lamé. The color palette is consists mostly of subdued tones, with a few unexpectedly vivid notes. Think gray, navy, olive green and khaki interspersed with flashes of orange, gold, pink and electric blue.

Essential pieces for women include loose dresses, print shirts, zip blousons, well-defined summer coats, slender, ladylike jacket-and-skirt duos, relaxed parkas, knit cardis, short pajama suits and stripey leggings.

Menswear translates into slim parkas, formal suits with long pants or Bermuda shorts, print shirts and striped cashmere sweaters.

Marni for HM launches at the Pacific Centre March 8. The Pacific Centre is open from 10am to 9pm on Thursdays, but you’ll want to head over early. Design collaborations with this level of clout attract an early line up and typically sell out within the first hour.
