Eastern Bloc

Since 2007, Eastern Bloc has been leading the pack in the production, promotion and dissemination of digital art in Québec by emerging and established talent. Located on a non-descript street on the peripheries of Little Italy, this daring gallery offers an unadorned, authentic art-going experience.

The Darling Foundry

A darling of the art scene, the Darling Foundry is a foundry-turned-gallery in an industrial zone west of Old Montréal. It continues to bring breath of fresh air to the area through innovative and experimental works by up-and-coming contemporary artists. There are two art galleries for your viewing pleasure, housed in an industrial-yet-chic building.

UQAM Design Centre

A few steps off Sainte-Catherine Street East, north on Sanguinet gets you to the UQAM Design Centre at the heart of the Quartier latin. Its unassuming entrance belies its actual setting—a big, industrial-like space that houses a cutting-edge gallery. It is one of the only centres in Canada to showcase exhibits exploring historic and current trends in graphic, industrial and urban design as well as fashion and architecture.

Added bonus: from Thursday to Sunday, at sundown the Centre’s façade is one of the eight that are illuminated by video projections as part of the Quartier des spectacles outdoor light programming.

CLARK Centre

The CLARK Centre is an artist-run centre dedicated to showcasing and producing contemporary art. Located in Montréal’s hip Mile End, the gallery maintains a fairly low-key profile in the city’s former manufacturing district, but the goodies inside are tenfold. Go for a gander: its two exhibition spaces are definitely worth the detour.

Galerie D’Art Loft

Nestled in historic Old Montréal, Galerie D’Art Loft is all brick-and-wood-and-stone cozy-chic creative. New to the neighbourhood, (it opened its doors in October 2014), the gallery shines the spotlight on the talents of resident artists, each bringing their own style, colours and vision to thrill our imaginations.

Espace VERRE

A non-profit studio dedicated to the art of glass blowing, with a school, studio and gallery, Espace VERRE is a real treat for the senses. This former firehouse in southwest Montréal also offers guests the sublime treat of watching glass blowers at work. The pieces they make, from utilitarian to decorative, are on display in their boutique. It’s an excellent spot to pick up one-of-a-kind items from a local craftsperson.
