Looking for a uniquely Vancouver experience? How about yoga by the beach? This summer, Kits Space – a local (and awesome!) social planning organization – has pledged to put on a daily outdoor yoga class at the beautiful Kitsilano Beach Park. Best of all, each class is 100% free!
Yes, you read that correctly. Free!
These free outdoor yoga classes will be held every Monday – Friday until August 31st starting tomorrow (June 1, 2016)! Everyone is invited and even if you can’t touch your toes (or your knees for that matter), you’re welcome to join the party!
Last summer, the extremely popular oceanfront yoga class was only held 3 days a week. For 2016, Kits Space decided to extend the offering to hold classes on Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7 – 8pm as well as Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 – 10am!
Last summer the Kitsilano beach yoga community gathered 3 times a week and sometimes had up to 260 people flowing together in the sunshine! Over 45 classes were offered to close to 4,000 lucky people, and this year the numbers will only keep growing!
To join the yoga class all you need to bring is a mat or a beach towel. If you don’t have either one of those, there will also be free mats available to those in need via a program called the Mat Collective. All classes are for every age and ability and there is no previous experience necessary!
Also known as karma yoga, while the classes are 100% free, tips are appreciated and money that you donate will help fund a new yoga mat recycling and up-cycling program (Mat Collective).
Whether you’re a yoga lover, a newbie, or just interested in an excuse to head outside – you’ve got to check out at least one of these free outdoor yoga classes. You’ve got nothing to lose!
You can find the yoga class between the pool and the tennis courts by the big trees, facing the water. The teacher will be there 15 minutes before class so you can say hi before class starts.
