Hotspots To See & Be Seen At During Formula 1 Grand Prix

One of the many things that Montreal doesn’t suffer for is a lack of top-tier, A-list social establishments that excel at their primary mission in life: your good time. And during Grand Prix season in particular, many of this city’s finer places to see and be seen kick it into high gear.

Frequently the epicenter of the party at any point in the calendar year for both Montrealers and visitors alike is the Sir Winston Churchill Pub Complex, comprised of three popular spots on bar- and nightclub-clustered Crescent Street in the heart of downtown. Winnie’s Bar, the adjoining Karina’s Club Lounge and piano bar, and the Sir Winston Churchill Pub proper make for the perfect party starting and/or ending experience any night of the Grand Prix.

If Old Montreal is more your speed, the Auberge Saint-Gabriel is doing it up, as always, with style and Panache over four days, June 5-8, in its classy and classic stone-walled Old Montreal digs. Their Momentum Grand Prix 2014 event features DJ performances by Sharam Deep Dish, Satoshi Tomiie, Pillow Talk, Tanner Russ and more.

Relaxed, atmospheric chic is always in full effect at the W Hotel’s Wunderbar, also in Old Montreal. It’s a must-not-miss stop on any Grand Prix weekend itinerary. This year Wunderbar, and its sister space Plateau Lounge Montréal, are promising a series of exclusive events, both night and day. Expect champagne, DJs and “expertly crafted cocktails from their resident mixologists.”

Not far from the W Hotel, discretely tucked into the southern edge of downtown, just north of Griffintown, the timeless Time Supper Club has a kind of retro Miami-meets-New York glamour to it, with its 1940s-era art deco interior, the centrepiece of which is a red, lit-from-below catwalk that runs through the club with dance floors on either side of it. Has been known for its celebrity sightings.

Speaking of ritzy, The Ritz-Carlton Montreal is throwing an exclusive black tie Grand Prix soirée featuring a special appearance by former F1 driver David Coulthard on June 6. The evening will feature DJ sets by DJ Abeille and DJ Yo-C, a champagne bar, cocktails from 7-9 pm, food stations, live performances and the promise of “luxurious gift bags.” Tickets are $295.00.

And finally, F1 fans with dance in their pants are going to want to bop into the 1,500-capacity Club Laboom in the heart of downtown. Their two Grand Prix-themed dance parties – Models and Bottles (June 6) and Gasolina (June 7) – will spread out over the expansive club’s two floors and four differently-themed rooms.
