Every year it seems like the same New Year’s resolutions are promised again and again. If you’re looking to make your resolutions actually stick this year, it helps if you’re also having fun. So even if you’re looking to get in shape or just discover a new restaurant, Vancouver is a great place to realize your resolutions.

Here are some of the top resolutions and how you can actually have fun with them in Vancouver:

1. Get back in shape

The snow has finally started falling on all of the local mountains in Vancouver, which means there is no better time to get outside! If you made a resolution to get back in shape, look no further than Grouse Mountain.

Ever heard of the Grouse Grind? Nature’s stairmaster is one of the toughest workouts in the city. While it’s not open in the winter, you have another option: the Snowshoe Grind. A great challenge, the Snowshoe Grind is the perfect way to get back in shape after the holiday season while embracing a snowy winter landscape.

2. Try something that scares you

Nothing gets your adrenaline going quite like doing something scary. Make 2015 memorable by trying out a new adventure. If you’re not ready to make a big leap quite yet, Vancouver ziplining is a good option for an exhilerating way to see BC’s best nature scenes while whizzing along suspended steel cables.

If you’d like to kick it up a notch, head up to Whistler to schedule a bungee jump with Whistler Bungee, a year-round experience that offers stunning views of the Cheakamus River Canyon before the chance to plunge 160 feet to the river below (with a rope attached, of course).

3. Stop being so stressed

Flotation tanks (also called isolation tanks or sensory deprivation tanks) are experiencing a surge in popularity in Vancouver. Floating is a practice where you enter a enclosed tub filled with water that has 800 pounds of dissolved Epsom salts. You lie down and float effortlessly, making it seem like you’re floating in space.

Fans of flotation tanks are quick to highlight the huge benefits for the body and mind, which includes: relaxation, pain management, meditation, heightened senses, and more. If you’re interested in trying something new and checking out a flotation tank, the Kitsilano Float House is offering a great discount for January.

4. Dine somewhere new

While December is a month of eating, drinking, and sneaking cookies, January is usually a month of cutting back and trying to lose those 10 pounds that inexplicably showed up over the past two weeks.. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t go out on the town and enjoy Vancouver’s fine dining establishments.

During the end of January, you’ve got a great excuse to try somewhere new with the much-anticipated Dine Out Vancouver festival. The festival features almost 300 restaurants which will be offering specially priced three (or more) course meals at one of three price points: $18, $28 or $38.

5. Learn how to drive standard

This is a personal addition, as learning to drive standard is topping my own list of New Year’s resolutions. In Vancouver, we’re lucky to grow up with Automatic vehicles that make passing driving school a little easier. However, standard vehicles are the norm in most other countries around the world.

If you don’t know how to drive standard, here’s a good reason to learn how: Scenic Rush Driving Experiences, a new service offering exotic driving experiences on the Sea to Sky Highway, from West Vancouver to Squamish and Whistler. Customers are given the opportunity to drive four different exotic cars, including a Ferrari and Lamborghini. And yes, all of these cars are Standard transmission.
