Isabella Rossellini brings Green Porno to Vancouver

Isabella Rossellini has a sideline. Besides appearing in films by internationally renowned directors like David Lynch and Guy Maddin, the actress has a curiosity about the sex lives of land and sea creatures. And she has a show – Green Porno, which is coming to Vancouver for the first time, and for one night only, April 25. Tickets go on sale today (March 11).

In Green Porno, Rossellini – the daughter of film royalty, actress Ingrid Bergman and director Roberto Rossellini – narrates overtop short films about the mating habits of marine animals and insects. She also uses props and costumes to discuss and act out her subject matter, while accompanied by her Green Porno short films.

In case you think this sounds a little, well, nutty, it kind of is. But it’s also both scientifically accurate and entertaining. According to the Guardian, the show is “surreal, dirty… accompanied by some utterly bonkers and brilliant films.”

For a demonstration of what Green Porno is all about, watch this short clip called “Earthworm”.

Rossellini’s films include Blue Velvet, Cousins, Immortal Beloved, The Saddest Music in the World and many more.

A presentation of the PuSh Performing Arts Festival and the Italian Cultural Centre, Green Porno comes to the Vancouver Playhouse (600 Hamilton St.) April 25. Tickets are $55/75 and can be ordered at ticketstonight.ticketforce.com or by calling 604-684-2787 ext. 2.
