MONTREAL JAZZ FEST: GAY & LESBIAN EDITION
MONTREAL JAZZ FEST: GAY LESBIAN EDITION
Posted by Alexander Dunphy
The Montreal International Jazz Fest brings an eclectic mix of international musical talent to Montreal for 10 days and 10 nights of great concerts, free outdoor shows and spectacular moments. And with the 2012 edition bringing headliners like Rufus Wainwright and Liza Minnelli, the 2012 Jazz Fest can’t hide its rainbow glow!
The following artists aren’t necessarily all gay, but they’re all LGBT-friendly acts that most of us homos will love. (Check out all the fest’s programing here.)
Liza Minnelli: Hold the gay gasp, yes. Liza Minnelli will be rocking her best Jazz songs and biggest Broadway hits on Thursday, July 5 at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier. Liza was born underneath a rainbow from another Gay icon, Judy Garland, which I’m pretty sure makes her Gay Jesus. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I won’t miss it for the world! Prices range from $80 – $104 and are available here.
Rufus Wainwright: Rufus Wainwright stars in the TD Grand Opening Event on Thursday, June 28 at 9:30 PM. As the son of Loudon Wainwright III and Folk Legend Kate McGarrigle, his musical talent literally runs in his blood. A lyrical mastermind with a deep cutting voice, Rufus also manages to still be a total cutie!
Escort: Every year at Jazz Fest, a new up-and-coming band gets to take center stage at Place des Festival. The 2012 edition brings ESCORT , a Brooklyn-based Disco troop with a 17-person live lineup! Jake Shears of the Scissor Sisters called them “the best disco you’ll ever hear.” It’s promising to be one of the biggest parties of the festival, so put on bell bottoms or your mothers old platforms and shake your groove-thing on Tuesday, July 3 at 9:30 PM. (Place des Festivals)
Montreal Jazz Fest App
Ok we gays love our iThings, and Montreal Jazz Fest has a seriously awesome iOS App. Available from the App Store, it has complete programing with photos., descriptions, audio excepts and ticket purchasing. You can make a personalized schedule, have a “radar” that allows you to use your GPS to track nearby performances, and other cool features that scream more “2013” than 2012.
