More Free Concerts: Deep Cove Daze on August 28

Deep Cove BC

The summer, and its incredible lineup of free music, is quickly winding down – But here’s one more free concert to slip into your schedule.  This Sunday, Aug. 28, is Deep Cove Daze at Panorama Park in Deep Cove.

The event features live music all day on the main stage, as well as an assortment of festival fun: a beer garden, midway with rides, artisans and even cardboard kayak race. The best part: Admission is free.

Things kick off at noon on Sunday, when the Deep Cove Big Band takes the stage.  Throughout the day, a slew of homegrown rockers will be performing, include the garage rock band Free City Collective, indie pop group Young Pacific and roots rockers Portage Main.

For all the closet performers out there, there’s also a Deep Cove Idol contest being held during the day.  Participants will be facing off at the children’s stage and the winner will get to perform that evening before the big crowds on the main stage.

For the kids, there’s face painting, clowns and performers.  A children’s kayak demo will be held at Cove Beach, and the midway will feature rides and plenty of food vendors.

For the older crowd, Big Rock Brewery is hosting a beer garden right next to the main music stage.

And, of course, the biggest draw of all is the setting.  The festival is held at waterside Panorama Park, just on the edge of the little town of Deep Cove.  Grassy slopes descend gently to the calm waters of the cove.  Mountains and forest stretch in every direction.  There’s swimming, kayaking and other water sports.  It’s really a picturesque spot for a day trip, about a 30-minute drive from downtown Vancouver.
