If you commute to Vancouver or Whistler, as many of us do, you’ll want to bookmark this.

HitchPlanet is a community of more than 10,000 members that helps reduce the cost of commuting for both drivers and passengers making the daily trek along the Sea to Sky highway.

The free member-driven site allows you to plug in your trip details including your destination, date, time of departure and desired pickup/drop-off locations and find a driver – or passenger – to share the trip. It also does the legwork for you by screening its members so you know who’s on time, who’s late and who might not show up at all.

HitchPlanet began in Whistler in 2010, but a Squamish site has just been launched this year with plans to expand in key locations across the province. Since its launch, HitchPlanet has organized 7,000 trips covering an estimated total distance of 250,000 kms.

Sounds like a trip worth sharing.
