New Light and Sound Installation Opens in Ackery’s Alley

Head over to Ackery’s Alley, next to the Orpheum, every night from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM for a dance party like no other!

Created by Tangible Interaction, this new installation allows the public to create and play music while activating 35 squares of light. You can experience it first by attending the public launch event on Thursday, August 9, from 7-9 p.m.

Named FIELD, this permanent and interactive art installation is an immersive experience created by international artist Alex Beim. The installation senses a person’s presence and their movements, and responds by creating a light and soundscape which gives the participant the opportunity to create their own unique composition.

With its potential for constant reinvention, FIELD in Ackery’s Alley taps into the basic human instincts to play and explore. Along with the FIELD installation, the laneway development will include red velvet paint, artful signage, gold paneling, and reflective metals. It will be a space that fosters social connection and social engagement with others and the public realm.

The project was managed by the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association in collaboration with HCMA Architecture + Design and the City of Vancouver.
