NEW YEAR’S EVE DINING, DRINKS, AND DANCING – WHERE TO GO IN VANCOUVER

Looking for a fun way to bring in 2017 that is something between the gong show of a giant public party, and sitting at home watching the ball drop with a glass of cheap prosecco? I have some great ideas that will help you celebrate in style, whatever your style is. Happy New Year!

Tableau Bar Bistro

Tableau Bar Bistro. Like the idea of spoiling yourself with a fabulous, French 4-course dinner? Chef de Cuisine Garett Blundell has put together an inspired menu that allows a choice between two dishes for each course, and optional additional wine pairings added. Menu highlights? Quebec foie gras torchon, or grilled P.E.I. scallop and Perigord truffle, mains like the AAA Canadian tenderloin and a savoury dessert of Asiette de Fromage with wine jelly, fruit and nut bread. Reservations start at 5pm throughout the evening, $95 per guest. Email events@tableaubarbistro.com or call 778-373-1620.

Homer Street Cafe and Bar

How about something a little more casual, but still 4-courses? Homer Street Cafe and Bar has a delicious menu planned, starting off for example, with the roasted beets and smoked duck, a main of marinated lamb rack, and spiced poached pear to end. Be sure and try their New Year’s Twist cocktail, a Homer Street riff on the classic French 75, made with gin, lemon juice, house-made pomegranate rosemary vanilla syrup and topped with cava. Dinner is $75, reservations highly suggested, call 604-428-4299. www.homerstreetcafebar.com

The Cascade Room

The Cascade Room is doing something fun, with their Jack Daniel’s New Year’s Eve British Invasion. Kicking off at noon on Dec 31st, brunch and World Junior Hockey on the big screens takes place from 12 to 3 pm. From 3 to 6 pm, Rockaoke Live (karaoke with a live band), allows brave types to show off their pipes with an all UK song list. Happy Hour also falls into that 3 to 6 pm time slot, with drink specials featuring Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, leading up to a countdown at midnight with party favours. No reservations and no cover charge required. www.thecascade.ca

Boulevard Kitchen Oyster Bar

Boulevard Kitchen Oyster Bar is offering 3-courses and live jazz, which we think sounds like a most sophisticated New Year’s Eve indeed. Seasonal favourites like local pine mushroom consommé,  housemade bucatini with butter poached lobster and salted sesame bar with caramel ice cream are part of the options available. Early 3-course seatings are 5 to 7 p.m. with the Jennifer Scott Trio providing music ($108), or go with a 4-course late seating from 8 to 10 p.m. featuring a countdown to midnight, party favours and dancing to GirlOnWax’s DJ Colette Trudeau ($188). Reservations online at www.boulevardvancouver.ca or 604-642-2900.

Dockside has put together a special 4-course dinner and live music by the Melanie Dekker duo, for $89.99 per person in the dining room. Start with a glass of bubble, some beet and goat cheese terrine, lobster ravioli, and end with a raspberry mille feuille. From 10pm onward, the lounge will rock with DJ Crystal Adare of Girl on Wax spinning dance tunes, with each $10 ticket including a glass of bubbles and party favours. Dinner guests receive complimentary admission to the lounge party. Dinner is served from 5PM – 9:30pm, reserve at 604-685-7070. www.docksidevancouver.com
