Playland at the PNE Opens for the 2016 Season this Weekend

The true sign of summer starting is the first opening of the gates of local-favourite, Playland at the PNE. The oldest amusement park in Canada will open up on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 10am to kick off a summer of foot long hot dogs, roller coaster rides, and stuffies won at the arcades.
Playland will only be open on the weekends in Vancouver until late June, when it stays open all week long. Luckily, it’s just sun in the forecast for our fair city, so it’s a great time to line up and get soaked on the flume ride.

Playland will be operating on weekends (Saturday Sunday) and holidays. From June 27 – July 29 it will include Monday and Friday leading up to the annual fair at the PNE that starts on August 20 and runs until September 5, 2016.
This year, Playland will boast over 30 thrilling rides, delicious carnival food, and addicting arcade games.
Popular rides include: the always-classic 1958 wooden roller coaster, the Hellevator, the log flume, and last year’s new edition… The Beast!
As wild and dark as its name depicts, this ride will have you screaming with terror from before you even get strapped in. The Beast is the first of its kind to North America, and Canada’s most extreme pendulum ride. With one menacing pendulum arm, you will be swung 120° in either direction, reaching heights of over 125 feet (that’s nearly 12 storeys), all while flying 90 km/hr in a seat that spins you 360°. Sounds as scary as it is, trust us!
Tickets for Playland cost $36 at the gate, but you can save some money by purchasing ahead of time online or at 7-eleven, Safeway, Save-on-Foods, PriceSmart Foods and Urban Fare stores at the end of May.

Weekends in May won’t be the same again with Playland opening up for the summer. Whether you’re in it for the mini golf, the gut-wrenching rides, or the family-fun zones, you’re in for a treat starting May 7, 2016.
