This Sunday offers a rare chance to see some of Vancouver’s top indie musicians on one stage, in a Dec. 4 benefit to raise money for one of their own.

Black Mountain is an internationally acclaimed psyche-rock unit from Vancouver. But, as the band learned on a recent European tour, glowing 7.5 reviews from music authorities like pitchfork.com are no protection against malfeasance and theft.

On a tour stop in Gothenburg, Black Mountain were dealt a major setback when thieves made off with a bunch of the band’s gear, including synths, guitars and more. To help out, musician friends of the group are taking part in a benefit at the Cobalt (917 Main. St.) to raise money for the band.

Performers include Dan Bejar of acclaimed indie-rock band Destroyer, on this night playing with his other group, Hello Blue Roses. Other acts include Slow Learners and Bold Marauder, with some special secret guests promised. DJs XdarmonX (Darcy Hancock of Vancouver hard-rock act Ladyhawk) and Sipreano (aka Kevin Howes, curator of the Grammy nominated 2014 compilation Native North America Vol. 1) will fill the gaps between bands.

Hello Blue Roses will perform at a benefit for Black Mountain this Sunday.

Besides live music and DJ sets, the evening will include a raffle. The Cobalt, The American, Timbre Concerts, The Rickshaw Theatre, Budgies Burritos, The Commodore Ballroom and many more are contributing prizes.

The band has also launched a PledgeMusic campaign to help recover from the loss, which is estimated at $20,000 USD.

Tickets for the benefit will be available at the door. Visit the event’s Facebook page to keep up-to-date.
