Looking for a spiritual good time? Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir presents its season finale, Jazz Meets Gospel, June 2. The Choir presents two concerts, and 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., at Christ Church Cathedral.
Filled with uplifting jazz and gospel numbers, Jazz Meets Gospel features songs made famous by legendary performers like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Nina Simone and more.

the concert will feature over 130 voices overall, with Holy Cross High School’s ViBE Senior Choir also taking part.
Also make a guest appearance is Daniel Lapp. A composer, teacher, archivist, band leader, sideman, producer, and promoter, Lapp is best known for his talents as a fiddler, jazz trumpeter and singer/songwriter. He has played on over 100 albums and performed across Canada, United States, Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, Finland and Germany with some of the world’s most renowned folk and jazz musicians.
Jazz Meets Gospel’s full program includes the song “Revelation” by American jazz-fusion band Yellowjackets and traditional numbers like “Walk With Me Lord” and “When the Saints Go Marching In” (both in new arrangements by Good News Gospel Choir artistic director Gail Suderman). Also of note is the 60’s civil rights anthem “I Wish I Knew How it Would Feel to Be Free.” Good Noise soloist Syllona Kanu performs the song in tribute to legendary blues chanteuse Nina Simone. It originally appeared on Simone’s 1967 album Silk Soul.
A superb band will accompany Good Noise, Lapp, and the ViBE Senior Choir. Musicians include Michael Kalanj (Hammond B3), Laurence Mollerup (bass), Elliot Polsky (drums), Ingrid Stitt (alto and soprano saxophones), and Suderman (piano and vocals).
Suderman founded Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir (Good Noise) in 2004. Over the years, the choir has performed alongside artists such as Barbra Streisand, Holly Cole, David Foster, Josh Groban, Jim Byrnes, Dee Daniels, and more.
