The Foodie Mom’s Ideal Gift

Consider this your warning; Mother’s Day is approaching rapidly and guess what….you still have time to show your appreciation! That’s right, she has planned ahead all your life to make sure you were clothed, warm, nurtured, and fed so why not return the favour with some care and thoughtfulness?

Of course there are some wonderful Mother’s Day brunch and dinner menus offered at picturesque establishments like Edgewater Lodge and SideCut, but I challenge you to think outside of the box. Recall the experiences she forced…I mean requested…..you to participate in as a child. Did she enjoy a time of sharing over afternoon crumpets and tea? Well then why not treat her like the Queen she is and take her for high tea at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler.

If she would drag you to markets and craft fairs then plan out a culinary artisan journey, complete with a map of all the go-to spots, if you are looking for extra brownie points….literally…

Earn brownie points at Purebread

Pick up treats like Pure Bread’s freshly baked sweets and loaves, Nonna Pia’s balsamic reduction, and North Arm Farms produce. Then you can really shine as the favorite child by preparing a feast with your treasures!

For me, I have fond memories of family hikes instigated by my mom where her three loving children whined and complained for the duration, “But Mom, we want Pizza Hut!!” Wow, what sweethearts we were. Ironically, I have grown to love a good picnic, and appreciate there are a few sources around town to send it over the top. The Fix Cafe at Nita Lake Lodge is an ideal spot to start filling my basket with their house-cured meats and local cheeses. Gourmet sandwiches to go to make your mom swoon.

Next, I am off to Portobello’s for a few too-pretty-to-eat-but-I-will cupcakes for a sugar high. Finally, I finish off the menu with some homemade salads and confidently whisk my mom away to a lakeside or park paradise table. Yep, I am out to impress so why not get well fed while I am at it. Happy Mother’s Day planning!
