The Top 4 Places to Take Your Dog in Vancouver

I can’t even begin to explain how much I’ve come to appreciate Vancouver since becoming a dog owner four years ago. Not only does it get me out of my house at least three times more than my pre-dog days, but it’s also helped me discover new scenic spots around town and make a ton of new buddies. Now that it’s spring, there are few reasons why you shouldn’t be out there enjoying the outdoors with your pup as much as possible. Here are some of my favourite spots where you can find me and my dog, Dutchie.

Coopers’ Park dog off-leash area
1020 Marinaside Cres.

Located just east of the Cambie Street bridge, this sprawling grassy, muddy field attracts a mostly local crowd from Yaletown and the condos along the seawall. Speaking of the seawall, this dog park is just along the water, which makes it the perfect place to stop for a little social time for you and your dog if you’re cruising the wall.

Pacific Spirit Provincial Park

It’s easy to get lost in this park, but in a good way. Many of the trails allow dogs to be off leash, which makes your pet feel like a leader in the pack. (Be sure to check with the signs.) Located on the way to UBC, this provincial park feels miles away from the city, yet is completely accessible. A favourite spot for dogs and their owners so time your hike accordingly – there’s lots of stopping and sniffing.

Charleson Park (False Creek)
999 Charleson Street

This off-leash park is a pooch’s paradise, complete with a waterfall, grassy knolls and a spacious field. Dogs of all sizes mix and mingle here and their owners are often friendly and approachable. We’ve spent several hours at this spot, chatting with all kinds of people and their pooches.

Vanier Park
West of Maritime Museum Parking lot

While dogs aren’t generally allowed at most beaches in the city, this one is almost exclusively for furry fellows. That means the dogs that can’t resist the salty ocean water get to have their day in the sun…and sea. It’s the perfect place to take the whole family – just be sure to bring a towel as your pet is bound to emerge from this beach as a sand creature.
