Friday July 19th

FUSE, 8:00PM-1:00AM @ Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver

This month’s FUSE promises to be a sensual feast – Grand Ballroom will be a multi-room party both inside and outside the Gallery, including free performances on Robson Street.  Dance, music, DJs, art, and unexpected surprises… all combined in one eclectic night.

YVR Take-Off Fridays, 9:00AM-3:00PM @ Vancouver International Airport, Richmond

Enjoy delicious treats, live DJs and music, facepainting, lunch specials, and entertainment throughout the airport.  Join the YVR Explorer Tour at 10:00AM for a free 1 hour before-security walking tour to learn more about the airport’s art and architecture.

Kits Showboat

78th Kitsilano Showboat Festival, 7:00PM @ 2300 Cornwall Ave, Vancouver

A Vancouver tradition since 1935, Kitsilano Showboat is a live performing arts theatre on the shores of Kitsilano Beach.  You’ll see dance, music, and theatrical shows, all with the beautiful backdrop of our North Shore Mountains.  Check the website for the line up.

36th Vancouver Folk Music Festival, times vary @ Jericho Beach Park, Vancouver

Over 60 artists bands from around the world gather on the 8 beachfront stages of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival from Friday July 19 to Sunday July 21.  There’ll be collaborative sessions and some great late night dance parties. Check the website for the full event line up and schedule.

Celebrate the Enchanted Evening’s 20th anniversary season performed in an exquisite Chinese garden in the heart of our very urban city.  This week’s performance by the Vancouver Piano Ensemble will see four talented pianists coax magic from two Steinways. Join the South Asian Arts for an outdoor, interactive, dance and theatre event.  A hilarious portrayal of the engagement and wedding of two young Indians brought together in an arranged marriage, you will love this elaborate production in the Italian Gardens at the Pacific National Exhibition.  Bring a jacket or blanket – the show goes on rain or shine.


Saturday July 20th

Tour the “Grand Old Lady of Granville Street” this Saturday!  The 90 minute tour of the opulent theatre includes secrets of its history and even some ghost stories.  Go backstage, explore hidden spaces, and even check out the dome of the theatre.  As tours are first come first served, we suggest arriving by 10:45AM at the Smithe Street entrance.

Canada Parks Day, 1:00PM-4:00PM @ Fort Langley National Historic Site, Fort Langley
Enjoy free entertainment aand activities along the Fort-to-Fort trail, which connects the Fort Langley National Historic Site to the first Fort Langley (1827-1839).  Great for the whole family.

Wreck Beach Butoh

18th Annual Wreck Beach Butoh Dance Performance, 9:45AM @ #4 Trail (below UBC Museum of Anthropology), Vancouver

Kokoro Dance presents the 18th installment of Wreck Beach Butoh, an annual butoh dance performance on the shores of Wreck Beach at the foot of the #4 Trail. Kokoro Dance performers, clad only in full body white makeup, will explore Canada’s most famous clothing-optional beach at low tide. Performances take place rain or shine.

11th Annual Copper Fire Arts Event, 10:00AM-4:00PM @ Britannia Mine Museum, Britannia Beach

The Copper Fire Arts Event features British Columbia artists such as metal workers using copper and bronze, ceramic artists using a number of different mediums, and jewelers.  Copper Fire is the Museum’s premiere summer event showcasing arts derived from mined materials “of the earth”.  There will also be craft activities for kids of all ages including sculpting copper wire crafts and bead jewelry.

28th Annual S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Walk With The Dragon, 8:30AM @ Lumberman’s Arch, Stanley Park, Vancouver

Each year over 13,000 participants follow the colourful S.U.C.C.E.S.S. dragon for a 7km panoramic walk along the famous Stanley Park seawall to raise funds for S.U.C.C.E.S.S.  It’ll be a day with fun-filled activities for the whole family, including a traditional dragon dance, carnival games, food booths, live entertainment, and lucky draws! Bring your family and friends to the Walk and bask in the festivities.

17th Annual Bare Buns Run, 12:00PM-2:00PM @ Trail #6 Wreck Beach, Vancouver

Come in your birthday suit and run to help preserve Wreck Beach!  Registration starts at 9:00AM.

Outdoor salsa dancing at Robson Square!  Beginner lessons start at 3PM, followed by salsa performances at 5PM and open social dancing.  Open to everyone, even if you think you have two left feet.
