This Week’s Featured Vancouverite: Dahn Bryan

Hometown: I’m a North Vancouver girl.

How long have you been a Vancouverite?
On and off for my entire life. Really, no matter where I’ve travelled or lived, my heart is always here.

Occupation:
I am the head chef instructor and program director of The Hungry Oven. We are a cooking school with a primary focus on children aged 4 – 16. I work mostly with the kids aged 4 – 10 doing my best to create an environment where each child feels empowered. I feel that cooking is a really important life skill and it makes me feel really good to nurture what I hope becomes a life long passion in these little kids. I feel happy every single day at work.

Favourite Vancouver restaurant:
Without a doubt, Bird’s Nest — a little hidden treasure of a restaurant. The owner/operator, Marika, prepares all of the delicious meals herself with fresh, local ingredients. In addition, she has put together this space that is like walking into a beautiful Parisian apartment. Did I mention the place also boasts a pretty solid vinyl collection? I’m totally smitten.

Best way to spend a Sunday morning in Vancouver?
Farmer’s breakfast at The Templeton with my love, then walk home the long way and see where the day takes us.

Best way to spend $50 in Vancouver:
Sweet Love Body Kream from Skoah (it is the only product I can honestly say I can’t do without). With the change, I’d hit up Nuba for a toasted veggie deluxe.
