Feeling the winter chill? The 9th Annual Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival is comin’ in hot with 30 vendors and 74 flavours to warm you up!

Running from January 19 to February 14, the festival spotlights Vancouver’s best (and all local) chocolatiers, pastry shops, bakeries, cafes, gelato, and ice cream makers. Always with the goal of making the humble hot chocolate the bombshell it’s meant to be, this year features 74 flavours from 30 locations to tickle a chocoholic’s cocoa fancy. (And for those looking for a dairy-free option, never fear; several vendors are whipping up tasty plant-based options!)

Hot chocolate happens to be this writer’s favourite winter beverage, so the festival’s motto of “Hot Chocolate Makes You Happy!” certainly rings true. The struggle is real to pick which ones to try but, if pressed, some of the mouth watering flavours that have caught my tastebuds’ eyes are:

#02 – Dark Chocolate Love” from 49th Parallel Roasters. Sumptuous dark chocolate (79%) hot chocolate. Though I’m going rogue and would pair it with the Vegan Chocolate Doughnut. (This the first time Lucky’s has made a vegan doughnut – especially for the Hot Chocolate Festival!)

#19 – “Midnight Spice” (V) from Cartems Donuts. IDark chocolate married with almond milk, organic cayenne, cinnamon and garnished with spices and slivered almonds. Paired with any donut in the display case. “Chocolate Glaze” (V) recommended.

#22 –Easy Like Sunday Morning” from Chocolate Arts. Maple hot chocolate made with Cacao Barry Madirofolo dark chocolate. Served with a Buttermilk Financier.

#26 – “Lavender Dream” from Diva at the Met. Lavender-and lemongrass-infused white chocolate. Served with a White Chocolate-glazed Doughnut.

#64 – “Maybe the Last” from Thierry Chocolaterie Patisserie Café. Araguani 72% Valrhona dark chocolate from Venezuela with Espelette chili whipped cream. Served with a mini Tiramisu.
