Your 2015 Montréal Museums Social Calendar

This city’s cultural scene never sleeps, and a big part of that is thanks to museums. From all-night dance parties to weekend art classes for the kiddies, there’s always something going on in the fine arts!

Vernissage_MAC September

• It’s time for your close-up: September 9 marks the opening of an exhibition of work by photographer George S. Zimbel at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

• Don’t miss the Nocturne at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, on Friday, September 11, 2015. The museum stays open late (till 2 am!), plus it features live bands or DJs, drinks, workshops and revelry. (Entry is free to MACarte holders.)

• On September 13 at 1:30 pm, enjoy a lecture entitled The New Predators, at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, featuring Mois de la Photo curator Joan Fontcuberta in conversation with the artists Joachim Schmid and Isabelle Le Minh.

• Want to help your local contemporary museum while having the night of your life? Join Montréal’s jet-set scene at the annual Musée Ball, this September 19 at Arsenal. From ball gowns to foie gras, you’ll find it all here.

• On September 22 at 5:30 pm, a lecture entitled Bach and His Contatas at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts will precede a concert of the discussed works.

• On Saturdays from 1:30 to 4 pm at the Musée Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, the Labo Techno digital and visual arts workshops is offered for the whole family. Then on Sunday it’s Family Day starting at 1:30 or 2:30 pm (free for kids under 12). And Tuesdays are Creative Tuesdays because of weekly art workshops for adults looking for a creative diversion from 1:30 to 4 pm (register at 514-847-6266).

• On October 7 at 6 pm, don’t miss the lecture entitled The Burghers of Vancouver at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, a conversation between the artists Denys Arcand and Adad Hannah with Catherine Bédard, assistant director of the Canadian Cultural Centre, Paris.

• Head to the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal for the vernissage of three shows on October 17, 2015: Camille Henrot, Dana Schutz and Patrick Bernatchez.

• On October 20 at 5:30 pm, a lecture entitled Bach and His Contatas at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts will precede a concert of the discussed works.

• On October 24, celebrate the birth of modernism in Montreal painting with the vernissage of the Beaver Hall Group exhibition at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

• You’ll want to catch the lecture on October 28 at 6 pm entitled A Look at Fashion during the Era of The Beaver Hall Group (1920s-1930s), in conjunction with the Beaver Hall Group exhibition at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

• On November 5 at 5 pm, take in the lecture entitled China and the West – Before the “Silk Routes” at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

Museomix kicks off at the Musée d’art contemporain, from November 6 to 8. The three-day creative sprint invites all to invent, design, prototype and test innovative museum installations with new technologies.

• November 12 means a lecture entitled Afternoon Study Session – Montreal and the other arts at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts at 4 pm, in connection with the exhibition 1920s Modernism in Montreal: The Beaver Hall Group.

• On December 15 at 5:30 pm, a Holiday edition of the lecture series entitled Bach and His Contatas at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts will precede a concert of the discussed works.

• Let the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal help you celebrate the holidays with their Holiday Workshop package: During the Holidays, the education team offers a workshop and tour combo. Workshops take place on Saturday and Sunday afternoons at either 1:30 or 2:30 pm. The cost is included with admission, and free for children under 12.
