It’s always fun to make your New Year’s Resolutions, but usually they don’t end up being very fun or lasting very long. Going to the gym gets a bit tired after the second week, and giving up the sauce never seems to stick.

That’s why, this year we’re giving you 5 Vancouver-specific resolutions that will be easy to keep and fun to do! So this year, forget about those five extra pounds that you’ll “swear you’ll lose this year”. Take some time to explore the city and expand your horizons while having a good time (hopefully)!

1. Perform your favourite song in front of a live audience

All those times you’ve belted out “I will always love you” in your car or shower have been leading up to this. It’s time you took to the stage and got your 5 minutes of fame by performing your favourite song at a karaoke bar in Vancouver. There is karaoke going on in the city almost every day, so all you have to pick is your favourite place, and try not to have a panic attack; a bit of liquid courage also doesn’t hurt. Try the Backstage Lounge for some karaoke with a LIVE BAND backing you up, or hit the stage for the infamous Hip Hop Karaoke at Fortune Sound Club. Here’s a full list of places you can check out for your karaoke debut.

2. Survive the Bobby Wing

Wings restaurant is well known for their extensive menu of chicken wings boasting over 23 flavours. But, did you know they also claim to have the hottest chicken wing known to man kind? Think you handle a chicken wing that requires you to sign a waiver in order to try it? Not for the faint of heart, eating the Bobby Wing is more for the bragging rights than the taste. Do you have what it takes to conquer the Bobby Wing?

3. Try a 30 day yoga challenge

We Vancouverites sure do love our yoga, and what better way to show our love than by doing it for 30 days straight? Yoga is probably the only physical activity that you could do for an entire month without facing any serious body issues or damages. In fact, it’ll probably make you feel a whole lot better than when you started! Whether you do Yin, Hatha, or Hot for 30 days is up to you, all that is required is that you show up and spend an hour of your time bending and om-ing. Sounds relaxing to us!

4. Hit all 3 Slopes and Determine a Winner

Vancouver is extremely lucky to boast not one, but three local mountains ready for all your snowboarding skiing pleasure. Most locals stick to one favourite mountain and may not even get up to the other two. So next year, why not challenge yourself to try out Cypress, Grouse, and Seymour to determine which is your favourite? You may discover a whole new set of runs that gets your excitement for snowboarding or skiing renewed to a whole new level!

5. Give away at least 10 sandwich tokens to those in need

Last year, Save on Meats butcher shop established an innovative method to give a hand to those in need. Instead of giving away spare change, you can purchase a sandwich token for $2.25 at the shop, which can be redeemed for a nutritious and hot breakfast sandwich. If your new year’s resolution was to do something nice for someone less fortunate, this is the perfect method. Buy a few, keep them in your pocket or purse, and help brighten someone’s morning.
