Fred Armisen live in Vancouver (sort of) for day-long Portlandia fest
The Rio Theatre has just announced that Fred Armisen is coming to Vancouver – via Skype. The actor/comedian will take part in a live q-and-a during a daylong festival featuring screenings of seasons 1-3 of the hit series Portlandia at the Rio.
For the unitiated: Portlandia is a series created by Armisen and co-star/writer Carrie Brownstein about the West Coast utopia that is Portland. From day-long brunch lineups to feminist bookstores and bike-riding mayors, there’s a little bit of Portlandia in all cities, and quite a bit right here in Vancouver.
The April 13 event will feature such edible in-jokes as pickled popcorn and artisanal grilled cheese sandwiches, along with some fine Portland craft beers from Copper Theory. You’ll also have a chance to take home official Portlandia swag (vinyl! t-shirts! DVDs!) signed by stars Armisen and Brownstein.
Tickets are $13 advance (at www.riotheatretickets.ca) and $15 at the door. The event is open to all ages, but those under 19 will be limited to balcony access. Doors open at 1 p.m. The Rio Theatre is at 1660 E. Broadway, near the Broadway SkyTrain Station.
