Free Salsa Dancing at Robson Square Starts July 1, 2012

Sunday Afternoon Salsa at Robson Square—the annual series of free outdoor salsa dances—returns for summer 2012 this Sunday, July 1.

Like Robson Square’s free ballroom dance series, Sunday Afternoon Salsa dances are open to everyone—regardless of skill level—and include free lessons, salsa performances, and social dancing throughout the afternoon. Basically, it’s fun for everyone: if you already know salsa, you get to dance your heart out in the centre of downtown Vancouver and if you’ve never salsa-ed before in your life, you can try it for free and meet new people, too.

Yes, really: You can meet new people salsa dancing. The salsa community is diverse and extremely friendly, and one of the best parts is that everyone dances with everyone else (even when people bring a partner, they often switch it up), so you can go all by yourself to Sunday Afternoon Salsa and rest assured that you will find partners, or go with a whole gaggle of friends (who will all find partners, too).

Each Sunday Afternoon Salsa event begins with beginner salsa lessons at 3pm (taught by top Vancouver salsa instructors), followed by dance demonstrations at 5pm from many of Vancouver’s best salsa dancers.

Along with the dance demonstrations, there’s open “social dancing” from 3:30pm – 7pm. In previous years, hundreds of Vancouverites of all ages and from all backgrounds have joined in the fun, so don’t be shy!

Sunday Afternoon Salsa in Robson Square happens every Sunday from July 1 – August 26, 2012.
