Hungry? Vancouver Dine Out 2013 Preview

Is it too early to start talking about Dine Out?  The yearly restaurant fest, which offers deeply discounted menus at the city’s best restaurants and attracts tens of thousands of foodies, gourmands and gluttons, is set to hit Vancouver Jan. 18 – Feb. 3.

Each year Dine Out seems to get bigger and bigger – more restaurants, more tasting tours and cooking classes, more ways to stuff your face in style – and this year appears to be no exception.

According to organizers at Tourism Vancouver, 230 restaurants are lined up for Dine Out 2013.  They’ll all feature the same three-course, prix fixe menus we’ve come to expect, at $18, $28 and $38 price points.  BC wine pairings for each course are available at an extra cost.

While participating restaurants haven’t been revealed yet (that happens when online reservations open on Jan. 7), some details have been leaked about new Dine Out-themed events.

This year, prepare yourself for Tea Cocktails and Tapas at the Urban Tea Merchant – a special mixology class focused on tea-infused cocktails and unique tapas.  There’s also something called an Experiential Speaker Series at Edible Canada on Granville Island – A local expert will lead groups through tastings of cheese, wine, beer and even bitters.

And some old favourites are set to return for another year.  Food cart fans should be pumped to know that Street Food City is back.  The city’s best food trucks will assemble in a to-be-disclosed locations for an all-out street eat binge.  Also returning are Plated and Paired (an after-hours wine-paired dinner at the Granville Island Public Market); Secret Supper Soiree (a double-decker bus whisks diners from one secret dining location to another over the course of an evening); and Act 1, Eat 1 (a pairing of local theatre and a three-course dinner).

While reservations for restaurants won’t open until Jan. 7, you can pick up tickets to these events and more starting Dec. 1 on the Dine Out Vancouver 2013 website.

Anyone else looking forward to Dine Out?  What was you favourite event last year?
