You don’t have to bend over backwards to find a yoga event in Vancouver. After all, we’re the city that’s received international recognition for our yoga-pants-as-daywear look. North America’s largest yoga event, Yoga Vancouver Conference and Show, takes place in town next weekend, Nov. 9-11, at the harbourfront Vancouver Convention Centre. Over three days, you can expect approximately 100,000 downward facing dogs on over 5,000 yoga mats.
Hugely popular every year, the Yoga Vancouver Conference and Show includes 120 health and wellness exhibitors plus 39 classes in the Yoga Garden, included in the $15 admission (which is good for all three days.) You can peruse the Yoga Garden schedule here.
In addition to the half hour Yoga Garden classes, the Yoga Vancouver Conference and Show boasts in-depth workshops from yoga industry superstars that cost an additional cost $39.98 to $70.00 per class. The workshops cover a mind-boggling range of foci from activity-centric to reflection/meditation. Examples include revitalizing the immune system, yoga for runners, how to teach prenatal yoga, the science of meditation, the secrets of sun salutation…and so much more.
In 2012, two standout instructors are:
A mind-body psychologist and yoga/meditation teacher at Stanford University as well as the editor of the International Journal of Yoga Therapy, and the author of The Willpower Instinct (Penguin).
A clinical psychologist, yoga teacher, and integrative yoga therapist. Bo is the founder of Integrative Yoga Therapeutics, a system that specializes in the therapeutic application of yoga for anxiety, insomnia, depression, immune disorders and physical injuries. She is the author of Yoga for Emotional Balance: Simple Practices to Relieve Anxiety and Depression.
